Doctoral Program in Climate Dynamics

The School of Computational Sciences (SCS) of George Mason University and the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA) announce the establishment of a joint doctoral program in Climate Dynamics. This program represents a unique opportunity for students to study the coupled ocean-land-atmosphere system with state of the art computational facilities and climate models. Successful applicants will receive a firm foundation in climate physics and computational sciences. Current research topics include: El Niņo dynamics, atmosphere-ocean interaction, land-climate interaction, deforestation, desertification, monsoons, climate change. Stipend and tuition remission available to qualified applicants. The courses also are open to those who wish to enhance their educational background without participating in the doctoral program. Many of the courses will be taught at COLA at late afternoon hours to accommodate working schedules. The SCS Ph.D. degree has been approved for participation in Maryland's Academic Common Market, which allows full-time students who are residents of Maryland to enroll in the Ph.D. program while paying the in-state VA tuition rate. COLA will hold an open house on January 8, 2002 at 4:00 pm, when interested people can visit and learn about this new program. COLA is located at 4041 Powder Mill Rd., Suite 302. Applications and more information about the program are available at http://csi.gmu.edu/climate/. If you are interested in visiting COLA during the January 8 open house, please RSVP to [email protected] or (301)595-7000 by 4 January 2002.
